भरतवाक्यं—रामस्य पुनरायोध्यागमननिषेधः (Bharata’s Plea and Rama’s Refusal to Return)
आक्रोशं मम मातुश्च प्रमृज्य पुरुषर्षभ।अद्य तत्र भवन्तं च पितरं रक्ष किल्बिषात्।।।।
ākrośaṃ mama mātuś ca pramṛjya puruṣarṣabha | adya tatra bhavantaṃ ca pitaraṃ rakṣa kilbiṣāt ||
O best of men, wipe away the reproach that has fallen on my mother; and now, protect our revered father there from sin.
O best of men, wiping out all the censure on my mother, redeem our revered father from sin.
Dharma includes restoring moral order within the family: removing unjust blame, protecting elders, and seeking moral cleansing from wrongdoing’s consequences.
Bharata asks Rama to accept a role that would remove stigma from Kaikeyi and relieve Dasharatha’s moral burden connected with the exile decision.
