Shloka 2.106.27
भरतवाक्यं—रामस्य पुनरायोध्यागमननिषेधः (Bharata’s Plea and Rama’s Refusal to Return)
अभिषिक्तस्त्वमस्माभिरयोध्यां पालने व्रज।विजित्य तरसा लोकान्मरुद्भिरिव वासवः।।।।
abhiṣiktas tvam asmābhir ayodhyāṁ pālane vraja |
vijitya tarasā lokān marudbhir iva vāsavaḥ ||
Once consecrated by us with sacred unction, return to Ayodhyā to rule—like Vāsava (Indra) who, having swiftly conquered the worlds by might, came back accompanied by the Maruts.
After consecration, you too return to rule Ayodhya along with all of us like Indra who went back (to heaven), accompanied by Maruts after conquering all the worlds with his prowess.
Dharma culminates in protective kingship: after rightful consecration, the ruler must return to the capital and secure order, supported by allies.
Bharata urges Rama to be consecrated immediately and then to return to Ayodhyā to rule, using Indra’s victorious return as an illustrative comparison.
Rama’s role as the ideal protector-king, and Bharata’s cooperative loyalty—he imagines ruling as a collective effort supporting Rama.
