Shloka 2.106.11
भरतवाक्यं—रामस्य पुनरायोध्यागमननिषेधः (Bharata’s Plea and Rama’s Refusal to Return)
गुरुः क्रियावान्वृद्धश्च राजा प्रेतः पितेतिच।तातं न परिगर्हेयं दैवतं चेति संसदि।।।।
guruḥ kriyāvān vṛddhaś ca rājā pretaḥ pitā iti ca |
tātaṃ na parigarhēyaṃ daivataṃ ceti saṃsadi ||
He was my guru, devoted to sacred duties, aged, a king—and now departed; he was my father. Therefore, in this assembly I cannot reproach my sire, who to me is as a deity.
King Dasaratha, my father and preceptor, is god-like to me. Devoted to meritorious acts, he departed from this world in his old age. For this reason, I cannot reproach him (publicly) in this assembly (of men).
Dharma includes reverence toward parents and teachers: even when correcting a wrong, Bharata maintains the boundary of not publicly condemning his deceased father.
Bharata balances two duties—acknowledging that something went wrong while refusing to dishonor Dasaratha before others.
