शततमः सर्गः — Rāma Questions Bharata on Rājadharma (Governance, Counsel, and Public Welfare)
कच्चिदर्थं च धर्मं च कामं च जयतां वर।विभज्य काले कालज्ञ सर्वान्वरद सेवसे।।।।
kaccit saumya na te rājyaṃ bhraṣṭaṃ bālasya śāśvatam | kaccic chuśrūṣase tāta pitaraṃ satyavikramam ||
O gentle one, since you are still young, I trust you have not ruined the kingdom beyond recovery. Dear child, I also trust you dutifully attend upon your father, whose true strength lies in his truthfulness.
O Bharata, the best among the victorious, conversant with timely actions and a bestower of boons! you are the best of men. I trust, you allocate adequate time for attending to all the three expedients of life like dharma, artha and kama.
A ruler must protect the state through prudence, and a son must uphold filial dharma by serving and honoring his father; truthfulness (satya) is presented as the real source of strength.
