Shloka 2.1.37

गुणप्रशंसा–युवराजनिर्णयः (Praise of Rama’s Virtues and the Decision on the Heir-Apparent)

वृद्धिकामो हि लोकस्य सर्वभूतानुकम्पनः।।।।मत्तः प्रियतरो लोके पर्जन्य इव वृष्टिमान्।

eṣā hy asya parā prītir hṛdi saṃparivartate | kadā nāma sutaṃ drakṣyāmy abhiṣiktam ahaṃ priyam ||

Such supreme affection for him kept turning over in his heart: “When indeed shall I see my beloved son anointed and consecrated?”

(He said to himself) 'his (Rama's) only desire is to promote the prosperity of this world. He is one who shows compassion to all beings and is like the rain-god dearer than me to the people of the world'.
