Shloka 3.8.20

सुतीक्ष्णाश्रमप्रस्थानम् (Departure from Sutikshna’s Hermitage)

श्रीमन्तौ रूपसम्पन्नौ दीप्यमानौ स्वतेजसा।प्रस्थितौ धृतचापौ तौ सीतया सह राघवौ।।।।

sukhōṣitāḥ sma bhagavaṃs tvayā pūjyena pūjitāḥ | āpṛcchāmaḥ prayāsyāmo munayas tvarayanti naḥ ||

O venerable Bhagavān, honored by you who are worthy of honor, we have dwelt here in comfort. Now we take our leave to depart—the sages are urging us onward.

Handsome Rama and Lakshmana, glowing in their radiance held the bows and exited with Sita.ইত্যার্ষে শ্রীমদ্রামাযণে বাল্মীকীয আদিকাব্যে অরণ্যকাণ্ডে অষ্টমস্সর্গঃ৷৷Thus ends the eighth sarga of Aranyakanda of the holy Ramayana the first epiccomposed by sage Valmiki.

Dharma is proper etiquette (maryādā): acknowledging hospitality, honoring the worthy, and taking leave respectfully rather than departing abruptly.

Rāma addresses Sutikṣṇa to express gratitude for the stay and to request permission to depart, since other sages wish them to continue their journey.

Gratitude and humility—Rāma credits the sage’s honor and seeks leave with courteous speech.
