Shloka 3.71.2
दनु-शापकथा तथा सीताहरण-प्रश्नः (Danu’s Curse Narrative and Rama’s Inquiry about Sita)
सोऽहं रूपमिदं कृत्वा लोकवित्रासनं महत्।।3.71.2।।ऋषीन्वनगतान्राम त्रासयामि ततस्ततः।
ahaṃ hi matisācivyaṃ kariṣyāmi nararṣabha | mitraṃ caivopadekṣyāmi yuvābhyāṃ saṃskṛto 'gninā ||
O best of men, I shall aid you with the counsel of my understanding; and, once purified by fire through you both, I shall advise you also as a friend.
With my appearance, I was a great nuisance to the world and used to terrorise the sages living in the forest.
Truthful, well-intentioned counsel (hitopadeśa) is presented as a dharmic service; purification through proper rites is treated as restoring fitness to speak and guide.
Danu promises Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa that after being purified by fire (through cremation rites), he will help them with wise counsel and friendly advice.
The virtue of helpful guidance rooted in sincerity—offering oneself as a friend and advisor once ritually purified.
