सीतावियोगे रामविलापः — Rama’s Lament in Separation from Sita
राज्यप्रणाशस्स्वजनैर्वियोगः पितुर्विनाशो जननीवियोगः।सर्वाणि मे लक्ष्मण शोकवेगमापूरयन्ति प्रविचिन्तितानि।।।।
sarvaṃ tu duḥkhaṃ mama lakṣmaṇedaṃ śāntaṃ śarīre vanam etya śūnyam |
sītāviyogāt punar apy udīrṇaṃ kāṣṭhair ivāgniḥ sahasā pradīptaḥ ||
But, O Lakshmana, all my earlier sorrow had grown quiet within me when I came into this lonely forest; yet from separation from Sita it has flared up again—like fire suddenly blazing when fed with logs.
O Lakshmana, loss of kingdom, separation from kith and kin, death of father, separation from mother---all these thoughts augment my sorrow faster and in greater measure.
Dharma is reflected as steadfast marital commitment: Sita’s absence is not a minor loss but a dharmic rupture that rekindles suffering. The verse teaches the seriousness of spousal duty and fidelity.
Rama explains that earlier grief had subsided during forest life, but Sita’s separation has reignited it intensely.
Conjugal devotion and constancy—Rama’s identity as a dharmic husband makes separation unbearable.
