सीतावियोगे रामविलापः — Rama’s Lament in Separation from Sita
आदित्य भो लोककृताकृतज्ञ लोकस्य सत्यानृतकर्मसाक्षिन्।मम प्रिया सा क्व गता हृता वा शंसस्व मे शोकवशस्य नित्यम्।।।।
āditya bho lokakṛtākṛtajña lokasya satyānṛtakarmasākṣin |
mama priyā sā kva gatā hṛtā vā śaṁsasva me śokavaśasya nityam ||
O Sun, knower of what is done and not done in the world, witness to people’s true and false deeds—tell me: where has my beloved gone, or has she been carried away? I am ever under the sway of grief.
O Sun-god, you know all the happenings of the world. You are witness to all the deeds of the people, true and false. Tell me where my beloved Sita has gone or has been carried off. My grief never ceases.
The verse affirms Satya and moral accountability: the Sun is invoked as a cosmic witness to truth and falsehood, implying that righteous order is ultimately knowable and answerable.
In desperation, Rama appeals to the Sun-god for knowledge of Sita’s whereabouts after her disappearance.
