Shloka 3.49.27
सीताहरणम् — Ravana reveals his true form and abducts Sita
ननु सद्योऽविनीतस्य दृश्यते कर्मणःफलम्।।3.49.27।।कालोऽप्यङ्गीभवत्यत्र सस्यानामिव पक्तये।
nanu sadyo 'vinītasya dṛśyate karmaṇaḥ phalam || 3.49.27 || kālo 'py aṅgībhavaty atra sasyānām iva paktaye |
“The fruit of an insolent person’s deed is not always seen at once; time too becomes a necessary factor here—just as crops ripen only in due season.”
The effect of arrogant action cannot be seen right away. Just as the crop yields results only after ripening, in the same way it takes time. Time acts as a supporting factor.
Karma bears fruit inevitably, but often in its proper time; dharma teaching includes patience and faith that adharma will meet its consequence.
As Sītā is being carried away, she frames Rāvaṇa’s act within the moral law of consequences, urging recognition that punishment may be delayed but not denied.
Moral clarity and steadfastness: even in crisis, Sītā affirms the truth of karma and the working of time.
