Shloka 3.49.25
सीताहरणम् — Ravana reveals his true form and abducts Sita
जीवितं सुखमर्थांश्च धर्महेतोः परित्यजन्।।3.49.25।।ह्रियमाणामधर्मेण मां राघव न पश्यसि।
jīvitaṃ sukham arthāṃś ca dharmahetoḥ parityajan | hriyamāṇām adharmeṇa māṃ rāghava na paśyasi ||
“O Rāghava, for the sake of dharma you have renounced life’s comforts and possessions—do you not see me being carried off by an unrighteous deed?”
O Rama, you have given up your life, pleasure and treasure for the sake of righteousness. Do you not see me carried off by an unrighteous fellow ?
The verse frames dharma as purposeful renunciation and moral commitment, while also condemning adharma as a force that harms the innocent—calling for righteous protection and restoration of order.
During the abduction, Sītā appeals to Rāma, reminding him of his dharmic sacrifices as she is taken away.
Rāma’s dharma-driven renunciation is explicitly praised; Sītā’s truth-centered appeal (satya in speech and loyalty) is also emphasized.
