api tvāṃ saha rāmeṇa paśyeyaṃ punar āgataḥ | na vā ity etan na jānāmi vaidehi janakātmaje ||3.45.35||
When I return, shall I see you again together with Rāma—or not? This I do not know, O Vaidehī, daughter of Janaka.
O daughter of Janaka O princess from Videha, I see dreadful omens. I do not know whether I will see you when I am back with Rama.
Humility before uncertainty: even a dutiful agent acknowledges limits of knowledge while proceeding with necessary action.
Lakṣmaṇa, sensing danger, leaves Sītā and expresses fear that reunion may not occur.
Sincerity and concern—despite conflict, Lakṣmaṇa voices genuine anxiety for Sītā’s safety and the outcome.
