Shloka 3.45.21

सीतया लक्ष्मणप्रेषणम् — Sita urges Lakshmana to seek Rama (The crisis of the ‘distressed voice’)

अनार्याकरणारम्भ नृशंस कुलपांसन।।3.45.21।।अहं तव प्रियं मन्ये रामस्य व्यसनं महत्।

anāryākaraṇārambha nṛśaṃsa kulapāṃsana || 3.45.21 || ahaṃ tava priyaṃ manye rāmasya vyasanaṃ mahat |

You who set out upon ignoble conduct—cruel one, disgrace to your lineage—I think this great calamity that has befallen Rāma is pleasing to you.

O ignoble, cruel Lakshmana, you are a disgrace to your family. I think this great disaster of Rama is a pleasure to you.

S
Sītā
L
Lakṣmaṇa
R
Rāma

The verse implicitly cautions against adharma of unjust blame and harsh speech—suspecting the innocent without proof violates satya and right conduct.

In fear for Rāma, Sītā lashes out at Lakṣmaṇa, accusing him of taking pleasure in Rāma’s danger.

By contrast, Lakṣmaṇa’s steadfastness is set up: he becomes the target of unfair allegations while remaining dutiful.
