Monthly Flower-Offerings (Calendrical Floral Worship)
Chapter 87 (PP.6.87), titled Māsika-puṣpa, sets forth a liturgical calendar of monthly offerings—especially flowers and sacred leaves—for the worship of Viṣṇu (Keśava/Mādhava/Janārdana/Govinda/Jagannātha). In the devotional setting of an Umā–Maheśvara dialogue, Śiva instructs Pārvatī on which blossoms and leaves are fitting from Caitra through Phālguna. It lists month- and season-appropriate offerings such as campaka, jasmine/yūthikā, bilva, lotus, red flowers, ketakī leaves, kadamba, tulasī, atasī, dūrvā, bakula, punnāga, and more, with occasional markers like the rainy season and the Sun’s passage into Taurus. The chapter repeatedly affirms that worship of the Lord of lords encompasses the worship of all deities, destroys sins, grants desired boons, and culminates in attainment of Vaikuṇṭha, presenting floral devotion as an accessible practice and a path to liberation.
