The Greatness and Procedure of Kāmadā Ekādaśī (in the Puruṣottama Month) with Nirjalā Emphasis
Chapter PP.6.63 proclaims Ekādaśī as the unsurpassed vow, most potent in Kali-yuga for destroying sin and granting both worldly aims and liberation. Yudhiṣṭhira extols Ekādaśī’s supremacy and asks how its observers may appear in Viṣṇu-like form yet at times be seen in sinful forms; Śrī Kṛṣṇa replies that the true result depends on devoted, proper observance, with special emphasis on the nirjalā (waterless) discipline. The teaching then lays out the vrata’s procedure: restraint in eating on Daśamī, nirjalā on Ekādaśī (connected with Nandā-tithi), night-long vigilance and worship of Puruṣottama, and correct pāraṇa on Dvādaśī (connected with Bhadrā-tithi). It lists what should be avoided on Daśamī/Ekādaśī/Dvādaśī and concludes by promising the highest attainment; hearing or reading this chapter is said to equal the merit of gifting a thousand cows.
