The Account and Procedure of the Trispṛśā Observance (Trispṛśā-Ekādaśī)

Chapter PP.6.34 extols Trispṛśā as a liberating observance for the Kali age, grounded in devotion to Kṛṣṇa/Viṣṇu and in precise tithi discipline. Nārada asks Mahādeva (Śiva) to explain the vow, and Śiva praises its power to destroy sin and sorrow. Within the inner account, Jāhnavī (Gaṅgā), weighed down by Kali-age impurities absorbed through the bathing of devotees, seeks a remedy from Mādhava/Prācīmādhava. He points her to sacred waters and then teaches an observance said to surpass tīrthas, sacrifices, and other vratas. The chapter defines Trispṛśā by its Ekādaśī–Dvādaśī–Trayodaśī configuration and warns against Daśamī-vedha, the taint of the tenth tithi. A detailed procedure follows: fashioning a golden image, preparing vessels with sesame and gems, installing and worshipping Dāmodara with tulasī, offerings and arghya, a night vigil with kīrtana, guru-pūjā, gifts, and feeding brāhmaṇas. It concludes with an expansive phalaśruti—liberation for many, uplift of ancestors, and immense merit from hearing, writing, and performing the rite.
