Brahmāgama — Brahmā’s Approach/Teaching (Birth of Jālandhara)

Nārada visits the Pāṇḍavas, grieving in Kāmyavana. Yudhiṣṭhira asks what karma has cast them into sorrow, and Nārada teaches that suffering is inevitable for embodied beings; even the mighty are subject to reversals, as seen in examples such as Rāhu and the conflicts of the gods. Yudhiṣṭhira then asks who Jālandhara is and how Śiva slew him. Nārada recounts that Indra and the gods journey to Kailāsa amid celestial music and dance; Śiva grants Indra a boon, which kindles Indra’s warrior-pride. Śiva’s anger manifests outwardly as Krodha and moves toward the Ocean’s realm; from a confluence involving Samudra a powerful son is born. Brahmā arrives, beholds the wonder, names the child Jālandhara, and blesses him as unconquerable by the gods, destined to enjoy heaven and Pātāla.
