The Glory of Madhuvana: Viśrānti Tīrtha, Śrāddha, and Lineage-Liberation

PP.6.214 extols Madhuvana and Viśrānti-tīrtha by embedding a meticulous śrāddha-prayoga within its tīrtha-māhātmya. A brāhmaṇa, the son of a sage, arrives there and performs śrāddha with exact observance—invoking Viṣṇu, seating brāhmaṇas, offering arghya, arranging and offering the piṇḍas, and duly completing the rite. Its fruit is revealed through a sacred epiphany: the ancestors descend in celestial vimānas and testify that Madhuvana-śrāddha frees them from degraded births—rākṣasa, lizard, pig or dog, even immobile states—and grants them heavenly status. The chapter culminates in Hari’s personal darśana at Viśrānti-tīrtha and the devotee’s ascent to Vaikuṇṭha, teaching tīrtha-sevā joined with śrāddha and bhakti as a lineage-saving path to liberation.
