The Glory of Khaḍga-tīrtha: Darśana and Worship of Khaṅgeśvara/Viśveśvara

PP.6.147 extols a rare sacred ford called Khaḍga-tīrtha, which Mahādeva (Śiva) reveals to Devī Pārvatī as a sin-destroying tīrtha. The chapter sets forth a salvific sequence: bathing at the tīrtha, receiving darśana of Śiva as Khaṅgeśvara (also called Khaḍgadhāreśvara), and performing pūjā—especially in the month of Kārtika. It also links month-specific observance with particular rewards: darśana in Vaiśākha grants sovereignty. The Lord is portrayed as ever-present and wish-fulfilling. Offerings to Viśveśvara include flowers, incense, food, lamps, fruits, and bilva leaves; the promised fruits range from avoiding evil destinies and attaining heaven to gaining wealth, abundant grain, and family prosperity.
