The Greatness of Worship of the Śālagrāma Stone

PP.6.131 proclaims the Śālagrāma-śilā as a uniquely purifying seat of Viṣṇu’s presence, where mere darśana destroys even grave sins. In Mahādeva’s instruction to Devī, it sets a graded rule for worship: five Śālagrāmas for brāhmaṇas, four for kṣatriyas, three for vaiśyas, and one for others. It further declares that even śūdras attain liberation through proper worship, and even through sight alone. The chapter then shifts from icon-worship to devotee-worship: the darśana of Vaiṣṇavas annihilates upapātakas and mahāpātakas, purifies deeds of body, speech, and mind, and uplifts many generations. It ends with a brief visualization of four-armed Hari and concludes that serving, feeding, or worshipping such devotees leads to Vaikuṇṭha.
