Then Bṛhaspati served as the Udgātṛ, the chanter of the Sāma, and Brahmā and Nārada were there as well; and when the sacrificial work began, oblations were being poured into the fires.

Sandhi Resolution Notes: bṛhaspatirathodgātā = bṛhaspatiḥ + atha + udgātā
The Udgātṛ is the priest who chants Sāma Veda hymns during a Vedic sacrifice; here Bṛhaspati is described as serving in that role.
It refers to the act of offering oblations (homa) into the consecrated sacrificial fires—i.e., the yajña is actively underway.
It highlights the sanctity of Vedic yajña and the participation of revered sages/deities, presenting ritual order as part of the cosmic and social framework described in creation-focused sections.
