The Greatness of Worship of the Blessed Lord (Viṣṇu–Lakṣmī Pūjā: Place, Mind, Offerings, and Merit)

Chapter PP.7.14 teaches that in the month of Mārgaśīrṣa, Vaiṣṇava worship should be offered to the imperishable Lord Viṣṇu together with Mahālakṣmī, but only in proper places and company. It forbids worship in impure lands and foul spots, in the homes of those fallen from dharma, near heretics or grave sinners, and amid crying, quarrel, ridicule, greed, or addiction to receiving gifts. It then turns to ritual psychology: deceit and a distracted mind nullify pūjā. Since all action depends on the mind, without inner purity even long austerities become fruitless. Therefore one should worship with single-pointed devotion, avoid distracting speech, and trust that the Lord accepts even simple offerings such as flowers and fresh items. The latter half lists month-linked offerings—sugarcane juice and foods, rice with milk or curd, new garments—along with dāna, and praises temple arts such as conch, bell, instruments, dance, and song. The promised merit culminates in reaching Viṣṇu’s abode and attaining liberation.
