Sūta

Concept: The brāhmaṇa, as guru of all varṇas, is to be regarded as the refuge of the devas—indeed as Nārāyaṇa’s representative presence in the world.

Application: Respect teachers and learned brāhmaṇas, seek dharma instruction before undertaking vratas, support them through dāna, and avoid contempt that damages one’s bhakti and social harmony.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: vira

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"Sūta sits elevated on a simple āsana, one hand raised in teaching, while sages listen in attentive silence. Behind him, a subtle aura forms the silhouette of Nārāyaṇa—suggesting that true teaching is a channel of the Lord’s sovereignty and refuge.","primary_figures":["Sūta","brāhmaṇa teacher archetype","listening ṛṣis","Nārāyaṇa (aura/vision)"],"setting":"Hermitage teaching circle with yajña fire, manuscript bundles, and a calm forest backdrop.","lighting_mood":"golden dawn","color_palette":["warm gold","deep maroon","forest green","ivory","lapis blue"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: Sūta as the central teacher with gold leaf halo; a faint Nārāyaṇa form in the aureole behind, richly ornamented; sages seated symmetrically, manuscript and yajña fire with embossed gold highlights, saturated reds/greens and ornate borders.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: a refined satsanga scene—teacher speaking, sages listening; a delicate, translucent Nārāyaṇa aura behind the teacher; cool greens and blues with warm dawn light, fine facial expressions and textile patterns.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlines—teacher figure with prominent eyes, Nārāyaṇa aura as a stylized icon behind; sages in rhythmic arrangement, dominant reds/yellows/greens with lapis accents, temple-wall compositional clarity.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: devotional teaching tableau framed by lotus and floral borders; central teacher with a Nārāyaṇa medallion above, peacocks at corners, deep blue background with gold motifs, intricate decorative symmetry."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"meditative","suggested_raga":"Durga","pace":"slow-meditative","voice_tone":"authoritative","sound_elements":["tanpura drone","soft bell punctuations","crackling fire","low wind through trees","measured pauses"]}

FAQs

It presents the Brāhmaṇa as the custodian of Vedic learning and dharma-instruction, whose role is to guide all sections of society through teaching, ritual knowledge, and ethical counsel.

The verse attributes a sacral status to the Brāhmaṇa: through mantra, yajña, and dharmic authority he is portrayed as a support for divine order, hence metaphorically a ‘refuge’ even for the devas.

It is a Vaishnava sacralization of the guru/Brāhmaṇa role: honoring the dharmic teacher is framed as honoring Nārāyaṇa Himself, emphasizing reverence, service, and the sanctity of spiritual authority.
