The Account of the Fruits of Bathing at Particular Sacred Places
Tīrtha-viśeṣa-snāna-phala
गंगायां यदि लभ्येत सूर्यग्रहशतैः समा । अथ देशविशेषेण स्नानस्य फलमुच्यते ॥ २४ ॥
gaṃgāyāṃ yadi labhyeta sūryagrahaśataiḥ samā | atha deśaviśeṣeṇa snānasya phalamucyate || 24 ||
If, in the Gaṅgā, the fruit of sacred bathing is gained equal to hundreds of solar eclipses, then now the results of ritual bathing are spoken of according to the distinct holiness of each place.
Narada
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It elevates Gaṅgā-snāna as exceptionally meritorious—comparable to the पुण्य (puṇya) associated with hundreds of solar eclipses—and introduces a systematic, place-by-place account of tirtha bathing results.
While framed in tirtha-mahātmya and ritual merit, it supports bhakti culture by directing devotees toward sacred spaces (like the Gaṅgā) where remembrance, worship, and purificatory acts naturally intensify devotion.
Jyotiṣa (Vedic astrology/astronomy) is implied through the reference to sūrya-graha (solar eclipse), using eclipse-related merit as a recognized benchmark for comparing the फल (phala) of tirtha-snāna.
