Dharmāṅgada’s Discourse (Dharmāṅgadopadeśa) in the Mohinī Episode
गर्भसंधारणे राजन् खेदः स्नेहोऽधिको यथा । मातुर्भवति भूपाल तथा नहि भवेत्पितुः ॥ ५ ॥
garbhasaṃdhāraṇe rājan khedaḥ sneho'dhiko yathā | māturbhavati bhūpāla tathā nahi bhavetpituḥ || 5 ||
O King, in bearing the child within the womb, the mother feels greater weariness and a deeper tenderness; O ruler of the earth, this does not arise in the father to that extent.
Narada
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: karuna
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It emphasizes dharma-based gratitude: since the mother bears the direct bodily burden of pregnancy, her compassion and sacrifice are highlighted as worthy of special reverence.
By training the devotee in humility and thankfulness toward one’s mother—seen as a primary benefactor—this verse supports bhakti as lived reverence, service, and ethical conduct rather than mere speech.
Indirectly, it aligns with dharma and samskara practice (garbhādhāna/prasava-related duties), stressing the household ethic that undergirds ritual life, though it does not teach a specific Vedanga technique.
