Kārtika-Māhātmya
The Greatness of Kārtika
सह्ये प्रालेयसंज्ञे च दिगंबरगिरौ शुभे । अन्येषु चैव राजानं स्वर्गस्थानादिकेषु च ॥ १२ ॥
sahye prāleyasaṃjñe ca digaṃbaragirau śubhe | anyeṣu caiva rājānaṃ svargasthānādikeṣu ca || 12 ||
On the Sahya mountain-range, on the peak known as Prāleya, on the auspicious Digambara mountain, and likewise on other sacred places such as Svargasthāna and the rest—there one should worship the King, Lord Viṣṇu.
Narada (in dialogue with the Sanatkumara tradition; tirtha-description narration)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It sanctifies specific mountains and holy sites as legitimate seats of Viṣṇu-upāsanā, teaching that pilgrimage (tīrtha-yātrā) becomes spiritually fruitful when centered on worship of the Supreme Lord.
Bhakti here is expressed as remembering and worshipping “the King” (Viṣṇu) across sacred landscapes—devotion is not confined to one shrine but is sustained through reverent worship wherever the Lord is traditionally adored.
The verse primarily reflects Purāṇic tīrtha-vidhi (pilgrimage practice) rather than a specific Vedāṅga; practically, it guides dharma by identifying authorized sacred locations for worship and vow-observance during travel.
