Determination of Tithi for Fasts, Parana, and Pitri Rites
अत ऊर्द्ध्वं प्रवक्ष्यामि स्नानपूजाविधिक्रमम् । न दिवा शुद्धिमाप्नोति तदा रात्रौ विधीयते ॥ १९ ॥
ata ūrddhvaṃ pravakṣyāmi snānapūjāvidhikramam | na divā śuddhimāpnoti tadā rātrau vidhīyate || 19 ||
Now, hereafter, I shall explain the proper sequence of the rites for bathing and worship. If one does not attain ritual purity by day, then the observance should be performed at night.
Narada
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It emphasizes disciplined śauca (ritual purity) and correct observance: worship is aligned to purity, and the scripture provides a practical alternative (night observance) when daytime purity is not attained.
It supports bhakti through proper upacāra (devotional practice): bathing and worship are to be done in the prescribed order so devotion is expressed with reverence, cleanliness, and scriptural compliance.
It reflects kalpa (ritual procedure) and dharma-śāstra style timing rules—how to adjust the performance of rites based on attainment of śuddhi, including permissible night performance when needed.
