Mārkaṇḍeya-varṇanam
The Description of Mārkaṇḍeya
तं सदानन्दचिन्मात्रं पराणां परमं पदम् । सर्वं सनातनं श्रेष्ठं प्रणतोऽस्मि जनार्दनम् ॥ ४१ ॥
taṃ sadānandacinmātraṃ parāṇāṃ paramaṃ padam | sarvaṃ sanātanaṃ śreṣṭhaṃ praṇato'smi janārdanam || 41 ||
I bow to Janārdana—pure consciousness and ever-bliss, the supreme abode beyond all, the all-pervading and eternal Reality, the highest and most excellent.
Narada
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It presents Janārdana as the ultimate metaphysical Reality—pure consciousness and eternal bliss—teaching that liberation is grounded in recognizing and surrendering to the Supreme Abode (paramaṁ padam).
Bhakti is expressed here as praṇati (humble surrender): the devotee bows to Vishnu as the all-pervading, eternal Lord, making reverence and remembrance the direct means to inner elevation and moksha.
No specific Vedāṅga technique is taught in this verse; the practical takeaway is the disciplined use of stuti and correct divine epithets (nāma–guṇa-kīrtana) as a devotional practice aligned with Purāṇic worship.
