Adhyaya 77 — Sanjna’s Withdrawal from Surya: The Birth of Yama and Yamuna, and the Emergence of Chhaya
मनुं प्रख्यातयशसमनेकज्ञानपारगम् ।
विवस्वतः सुतो यस्मात्तस्माद्वैवस्वतस्तु सः ॥
manuṃ prakhyātayaśasam anekajñānapāragam / vivasvataḥ suto yasmāt tasmād vaivasvatas tu saḥ
That Manu, renowned in fame and having crossed to the far shore of many kinds of knowledge—since he was the son of Vivasvān, therefore he is called Vaivasvata.
Legitimate leadership is paired with learning: Manu is portrayed not only as well-born but also as profoundly knowledgeable, implying governance should be grounded in wisdom.
