Adhyaya 63 — Sumati's Dharma
ततोऽतिशोभने कन्ये विमुक्ते व्याधितः शुभे ।
स्वकान्त्योद्यॊति दिग्भागं चक्राते तन्महीधरम् ॥
tato ’tiśobhane kanye vimukte vyādhitaḥ śubhe / svakāntyodyoti digbhāgaṃ cakrāte tanmahīdharam
Then those two exceedingly beautiful, auspicious maidens—freed from illness—by their own radiance illuminated the quarters and made that mountain resplendent.
Health and virtue are portrayed as luminous: when affliction is removed, innate tejas naturally manifests, benefiting not only the individual but the surrounding world.
Manvantara narrative conclusion: the episode closes with a visible sign (radiance) of restored order—typical of Purāṇic storytelling within era-accounts.
Illuminating the directions symbolizes harmonization of the inner faculties; cure is not merely absence of disease but reappearance of sattvic brilliance that ‘lights up’ one’s entire sphere.
