Adhyaya 57 — The Ninefold Divisions of Bharata: Mountains, Rivers, and Peoples
क्षत्रियोपनिवेशाश्च वैश्यशूद्रकुलानि च । काम्बोजा दरदाश्चैव वर्वरा हर्षवर्धनाः ॥
kṣatriyopaniveśāśca vaiśyaśūdrakulāni ca / kāmbojā daradāścaiva varvarā harṣavardhanāḥ
There are also settlements of Kṣatriyas, and clans of Vaiśyas and Śūdras; and likewise the Kāmbojas, the Daradas, the Varvaras, and the Harṣavardhanas.

The verse reflects a purāṇic habit of mapping society onto space—settlements and lineages are part of the ‘known world’ and its dharmic order, even when described as peripheral.
Falls under ancillary cosmography/vaṃśa-world description used across Purāṇas to contextualize dynasties and sacred history.
By listing varṇas and peoples together, the text implies that social order and territorial order mirror each other—an external geography reflecting an internalized schema of dharma.
