Virāṭa-parva Adhyāya 33 — Kuru Cattle-Raid and Matsya Mobilization (भूमिंजय-प्रेरणा)
भीमस्तु भीमसंकाशो रथात् प्रस्कन्द्य पाण्डव: | प्राद्रवत् तूर्णमव्यग्रो जीवितेप्सु: सुशर्मण:
bhīmas tu bhīmasaṅkāśo rathāt praskandya pāṇḍavaḥ | prādravat tūṛṇam avyagro jīvitepsuḥ suśarmaṇaḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Bhīma, mighty in form and presence, leapt down from his chariot. Unagitated and composed, he rushed forward at great speed toward Suśarmā, intent on taking his life, meeting the aggressor head-on with fearless resolve.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights kṣatriya steadiness and fearlessness: even amid sudden aggression, Bhīma remains avyagra (unshaken) and acts decisively. Ethical emphasis lies in disciplined courage—strength guided by composure rather than panic.
As the fight intensifies, Bhīma jumps down from his chariot and charges rapidly toward Suśarmā. The narration stresses Bhīma’s formidable presence and his calm, lethal intent in confronting the enemy leader directly.
