Virāṭa-parva Adhyāya 22 — Draupadī’s Abduction Attempt and Bhīma’s Suppression of the Kīcakas
प्रापितं ते मया वित्त बहुरूपमनन्तकम् | यत् कृतं धनरत्नाब्यं दासीशतपरिच्छदम्
vaiśampāyana uvāca | prāpitaṃ te mayā vittaṃ bahurūpam anantakam | yat kṛtaṃ dhana-ratnāḍhyaṃ dāsī-śata-paricchadam ||
Vaiśampāyana said: “I have delivered to you the wealth I amassed—manifold and seemingly without end. And whatever I have made ready—rich in gold and jewels, furnished with hundreds of maidservants and all household appurtenances—I dedicate it all to you.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical ambiguity of using immense wealth and luxury as a means of winning favor. It invites reflection on whether relationships and decisions should be guided by dharma and integrity rather than by material inducement and display.
The speaker (reported by Vaiśampāyana) describes having transferred vast, varied wealth and lavish household resources—treasure, jewels, and many attendants—to the addressed person, presenting it as a complete dedication of possessions.
