द्रौपदी-भीमसेनसंवादः
Draupadī–Bhīmasena Dialogue on Suffering, Kāla, and Daiva
यस्मिन् जाते महाभागे कुन्त्या: शोको व्यनश्यत । स शोचयति मामद्य भीमसेन तवानुज:
yasmin jāte mahābhāge kuntyāḥ śoko vyanaśyata | sa śocayati mām adya bhīmasena tavānujaḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana said: “When that greatly fortunate one was born, Kuntī’s grief was wiped away. Yet today that very younger brother of yours—Arjuna—by the misery he has fallen into, makes me grieve.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the instability of worldly conditions: the same person whose birth dispelled a mother’s sorrow can later become the cause of sorrow through misfortune. It underscores empathy and the moral weight of a kinsman’s suffering, especially within the dharmic duty to protect and uphold one’s family.
Vaiśampāyana addresses Bhīma, recalling how Arjuna’s birth ended Kuntī’s grief, but now Arjuna’s present hardship (during the period of concealment in Virāṭa’s realm) makes the speaker sorrowful. The line sets an emotional contrast between past auspiciousness and current distress.
