Draupadī’s Grief at Seeing the Heroes in Disguise (द्रौपदी-विषादः / वेष-परिभव-वर्णनम्)

“Thus, by the pretext and affair of the dice-game, he has been stripped of his prosperity and dignity. Now he sits in silence like one bewildered, brooding over his own deeds.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores the ethical consequence of adharma associated with gambling: a person can be brought low from prosperity and honor, and is left to confront the results of his own actions in silent remorse.
Vaiśampāyana describes a figure who, due to the dice-game episode, has lost his former fortune and standing; he now sits quietly, stunned and reflective, thinking over what he has done.
