Draupadī’s Lament and Indictment of Misfortune
प्राद्रवन्ना थमिच्छन्ती कृष्णा नाथवती सती । भवनं भीमसेनस्य क्षिप्रमायतलोचना
prādravannātham icchantī kṛṣṇā nāthavatī satī | bhavanaṃ bhīmasenasya kṣipram āyatālocanā ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Though she was a virtuous woman and not without protectors, Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī), seeking a champion, ran swiftly—her long eyes wide with urgency—to the dwelling of Bhīmasena.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
In moments of injustice, seeking immediate refuge with a righteous protector is appropriate; virtue does not mean passivity. The verse highlights the ethical duty of the strong to protect honor and the vulnerable.
Draupadī, distressed and seeking someone to champion her cause, rushes quickly to Bhīma’s dwelling, indicating urgency and her confidence in Bhīma’s protective power.
