युधिष्ठिरस्य अर्जुनप्रेषण-युक्तिवर्णनम् | Yudhiṣṭhira’s Rationale for Sending Arjuna and Request to Dhaumya
सरस्वतीं समासाद्य तर्पयेत् पितृदेवता: । सारस्वतेषु लोकेषु मोदते नात्र संशय:
Sarasvatīṃ samāsādya tarpayet pitṛdevatāḥ | Sārasvateṣu lokeṣu modate nātra saṃśayaḥ ||
Having reached the sacred Sarasvatī, one should offer tarpana—libations of water—to the gods and the ancestral spirits. By this act the pilgrim attains joy in the heavenly realms associated with Sarasvatī; of this there is no doubt.
घुलस्त्य उवाच
Pilgrimage is ethically completed through gratitude and duty: by performing tarpana for gods and ancestors at Sarasvatī, one fulfills dharmic obligations and gains auspicious spiritual results, described as joy in Sarasvatī-associated realms.
In the context of a tīrtha-mahātmya passage, the speaker recommends a specific rite at the Sarasvatī tīrtha—offering libations to Devas and Pitṛs—and assures the listener of the resulting merit and happiness in higher worlds.
