युधिष्ठिरस्य अर्जुनप्रेषण-युक्तिवर्णनम् | Yudhiṣṭhira’s Rationale for Sending Arjuna and Request to Dhaumya
तत्राभिषेकं कुर्वाणो वाजपेयमवाप्नुयात् । देवकूटं समासाद्य ब्रह्मर्षिगणसेवितम्
tatrābhiṣekaṃ kurvāṇo vājapeyam avāpnuyāt | devakūṭaṃ samāsādya brahmarṣigaṇasevitam ||
There, whoever performs the consecration rite attains the merit of a Vājapeya sacrifice. And having reached Devakūṭa—frequented and revered by hosts of Brahmarṣis—one gains a sanctifying religious fruit by duly performing ritual action in a holy place, for disciplined observance and sacred association raise one’s spiritual standing.
घुलस्त्य उवाच
The verse teaches that sincere performance of prescribed rites in a sanctified place—especially one associated with great sages—yields extraordinary religious merit, comparable to major Vedic sacrifices, underscoring the ethical value of disciplined observance and reverence for holy sites and saintly presence.
The speaker is describing the spiritual efficacy of a particular sacred location: upon reaching Devakūṭa, a place honored by Brahmarṣis, performing an abhiṣeka there is said to grant the fruit of the eminent Vājapeya sacrifice.
