युधिष्ठिरस्य अर्जुनप्रेषण-युक्तिवर्णनम् | Yudhiṣṭhira’s Rationale for Sending Arjuna and Request to Dhaumya
अहल्याया हवदे स्नात्वा व्रजेत परमां गतिम् । अभिगम्याश्रमं राजन् विन्दते श्रियमात्मन:
Ahalyāyāḥ hrade snātvā vrajet paramāṃ gatim | abhigamyāśramaṃ rājan vindate śriyam ātmanaḥ ||
Ghūlastya said: “By bathing in the lake of Ahalyā one attains the highest state. O King, by going to Gautama’s hermitage one gains prosperity for oneself.”
घुलस्त्य उवाच
The verse teaches that sacred bathing and respectful approach to a rishi’s hermitage are dharmic acts believed to purify the person and yield both higher spiritual attainment (paramā gati) and rightful prosperity (śrī).
Ghūlastya is describing the merit of a specific tīrtha: bathing in Ahalyā’s lake and then visiting the hermitage of the brahmarṣi Gautama, assuring the king that these acts confer supreme benefit and prosperity.
