Transmission of Akṣa-hṛdaya; Kali’s Exit and the Bibhītaka Refuge
Bṛhadaśva said: “At sunrise she will choose a second husband. For it is not known whether the heroic Nala is alive or not.”
The verse highlights how ethical and social decisions can be pressured by uncertainty: when a person’s life-status is unknown, others may be driven toward pragmatic choices (such as remarriage), even while emotional and moral loyalties remain unresolved.
Bṛhadaśva reports an urgent situation: at sunrise, the woman (Damayantī) is expected to choose another husband, because no one can confirm whether Nala, her heroic husband, is still alive.
