Bṛhadaśva uvāca: evaṁ vimṛśya vividhaiḥ kāraṇair lakṣaṇaiś ca tāṁ upāgamya tato bhaimīṁ Sudevo brāhmaṇo ’bravīt.
Bṛhadaśva said: Having reflected in many ways—by various reasons and identifying marks—and having recognized Bhīmī (Damayantī), the brāhmaṇa Sudeva approached her and spoke thus.
बृहदश्च उवाच
Act only after careful discernment: Sudeva verifies Damayantī through multiple signs and reasons, reflects on his duty, and then speaks—showing that ethical action requires both right knowledge (recognition) and right intention (service to a just purpose).
Bṛhadaśva narrates that Sudeva, a brāhmaṇa sent on a search, identifies Damayantī (Bhīmī) by various indications, approaches her, and begins to address her—marking the transition from investigation to delivering his message and assistance.
