देवेभ्यो5हें नमस्कृत्य सर्वेभ्य: पृथिवीपते । वृणे त्वामेव भर्तारें सत्यमेतद् ब्रवीमि ते,'पृथ्वीपते! मैं सम्पूर्ण देवताओंको नमस्कार करके आपहीको अपना पति चुनती हूँ। यह मैंने आपसे सच्ची बात कही है”
devebhyo 'haṁ namaskṛtya sarvebhyaḥ pṛthivīpate | vṛṇe tvām eva bhartāraṁ satyam etad bravīmi te ||
Having bowed to all the gods, she addressed the lord of the earth: “I choose you alone as my husband. This is the truth—I speak it to you sincerely.”
बृहदश्व उवाच
The verse highlights satya (truthfulness) and deliberate commitment: the speaker frames her marital choice as a truthful declaration made with reverence, implying that dharmic decisions should be openly owned and honestly stated.
Within Bṛhadaśva’s narration, a woman formally declares—after saluting the gods—that she chooses the addressed king (pṛthivīpati) alone as her husband, making a public, unequivocal statement of selection.
