Kali and Dvāpara’s Resolve Against Nala
कथमागमनं चेह कथं चासि न लक्षित: । सुरक्षितं हि मे वेश्म राजा चैवोग्रशासन:
katham āgamanaṃ ceha kathaṃ cāsi na lakṣitaḥ | surakṣitaṃ hi me veśma rājā caivograśāsanaḥ ||
Bṛhadaśva said: “How did you manage to come here, and how have you not been noticed? My residence is well-guarded, and the king too enforces stern discipline.”
बृहृदश्च उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical expectation of vigilance and order in a ruler’s domain: a well-guarded household and a strict king imply that entry without detection is unusual, prompting inquiry into intent and method.
Bṛhadaśva questions an arrival: he asks how the person came there and why they were not detected, emphasizing that his residence is guarded and that the king maintains strict control.
