Vidura–Dhṛtarāṣṭra Dialogue on Rajadharma and Restitution

tataḥ kruddho dhṛtarāṣṭro ’bravīn māṃ yasmin śraddhā bhārata tatra yāhi | nāhaṃ bhūyaḥ kāmaye tvāṃ sahāyaṃ mahīm imāṃ pālayituṃ puraṃ vā ||

Then Dhṛtarāṣṭra, angered, said to me: “O Bhārata, go wherever your faith is placed. I no longer desire you as an ally to help me govern—whether this kingdom or this city.”

Educational Q&A

A ruler who lets anger override discernment may reject the very counsel that sustains dharma and stable governance; personal resentment can become politically and ethically destructive.

Dhṛtarāṣṭra, provoked and upset, dismisses Vidura, telling him to go wherever his loyalty lies and declaring he no longer wants Vidura’s assistance in ruling the kingdom or the city.
