Dharma may demand strenuous effort and even suffering when protecting the vulnerable (here, a brāhmaṇa), but righteous action—performed with restraint and fidelity to vows—tends toward a wholesome, happiness-bearing outcome (sukhodarka).
The narrator signals an episode in which the Pāṇḍavas, while living in the forest, undertake a courageous effort on behalf of a brāhmaṇa. They undergo severe hardship in the process, yet the narrator foreshadows that the final result will be auspicious and joyful.
