Educational Q&A

A ruler (or any person of status) should uphold dharma by showing humility and reverence to elders and ascetics; social power is legitimized through respectful conduct toward those devoted to spiritual discipline.

After greeting the elderly brāhmaṇas living in the hermitage and receiving their honoring hospitality, the person described (contextually, a king) departs from the āśrama and proceeds toward his capital city.
