dehakartā praśāntātmā viśvātmā viśvatomukhaḥ | carācarātmā sūkṣmātmā maitreyaḥ karuṇānvitaḥ ||
Dhaumya said: “He is the fashioner of embodied beings; inwardly tranquil; the Self of the universe, facing all directions; the indwelling Self of all that moves and does not move; subtle in essence; friendly and benevolent; and filled with compassion.” In this chapter’s context, these epithets form part of the sacred recitation of Sūrya’s names, presented as a devotional discipline meant to steady the mind, awaken gratitude, and invoke protective, life-sustaining order (ṛta) amid hardship.
