Indrajit’s Binding, Restoration by Viśalyā, and Counsel Restraining Rāvaṇa (Āraṇyaka Parva 273)

इस प्रकार श्रीमह्या भारत वनपववके अन्तर्गत द्रौपदीहरणपर्वमें जयद्रथपलायनविषयक दो सौ इकह्तत्तरवाँ अध्याय पूरा हुआ

Iti prakāraṃ śrīmahābhārate vanaparvaṇi antar-gate draupadīharaṇaparvaṇi jayadrathapalāyanaviṣayakaḥ dviśataika-saptatitamo 'dhyāyaḥ pūrṇaḥ.

Thus ends the two-hundred-and-seventy-first chapter of the Mahābhārata’s Vana Parva, within the Draupadī-haraṇa section, dealing with Jayadratha’s flight. The colophon marks the close of this episode, underscoring how wrongful desire and the violation of dharma lead to fear, defeat, and disgrace, while steadfast protection of the wronged becomes a moral imperative.

Educational Q&A

The colophon signals the moral arc of the episode: adharma—here, the violation of a protected woman’s dignity—culminates in defeat and fearful retreat, while righteous resistance and protection of the wronged are affirmed as dharmic duties.

This is the closing notice of the chapter that treats Jayadratha’s flight in the Draupadī-abduction episode within the Vana Parva; it formally concludes that chapter in the Gītā Press-style framing.
