“O best of the twice-born, even when restrained and advised by well-wishing friends and by learned men…”
व्याध उवाच
Good counsel from friends and the learned is meant to restrain harmful action; if one ignores such restraint, the ethical burden remains on the doer to choose self-control and dharma.
The hunter (vyādha) continues addressing a Brahmin, building an argument about conduct: even when a person is warned and held back by well-wishers and scholars, one may still act wrongly—highlighting the need to heed guidance and govern oneself.
