Seeing that sage alive, the kṣatriyas were seized by the greatest astonishment. Addressing the king, they exclaimed, “Indeed, this is a great marvel!”
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse highlights the traditional Mahābhārata ethic that spiritual discipline (tapas) and the stature of a ṛṣi command profound respect; worldly power is humbled before the possibility of extraordinary yogic or ascetic attainment.
A group of kṣatriyas sees a sage alive (contrary to what they expected) and is overwhelmed with amazement. They voice their astonishment to the king, calling it a great marvel.
